Want to boost your wellness? There are two secrets to wellness – balance and mindset.
Picture yourself sitting on a chair. Each leg is one aspect of your life: physical, metal, emotional and spiritual. If the four legs are equally strong, the chair is stable and you can use the chair (to sit on and observe your life… and stand on to reach for your goals). But if one of those legs is neglected and weak, the chair may teeter or even collapse. You certainly wouldn’t stand on a teetering chair and count on it to support you as you reach for your goals!
Balance
If one leg of the chair is weak, it will adversely affect the remaining legs too; and since the mind and the body are virtually inseparable, balance must be maintained for the whole system to work perfectly. If you spend too much time working on your mental ability, for example, and neglect your emotional and physical needs, the resulting stress will weaken the body.
To keep all four legs in balance, make sure your life’s focus and energy isn’t skewed. Find a balance:
Physical: love yourself with good nutrition and physical activity!
- Nutrition: garbage in equals garbage out. It’s easy to eat well; all it takes is replacing unhealthy eating habits with healthy eating habits. Commit to your health by eating foods that nourish, not upset.
- Play: remember when moving your body and running around was fun, when you gave no thought to the exertion of running full-blast to the top of a hill but immersed yourself in the joy and freedom of running? Take the WORK out of workout and play more. Have fun!
Mental: work on your mental ability; your brain is designed to be used, not parked!

- Create a habit of action, to replace a habit of procrastination. Make yourself be pro-active toward your goals for just 20 minutes every day. The best time to do this is upon waking up. Spend 20 minutes on some important goal – get it out of the way, get it done, and don’t spend any time thinking about doing it. DO IT.
- Challenge your brain. Do something creative. Write with your opposite hand. Learn something new every day.
- Work on yourself! Mental mastery is the key to success and happiness; if you let negative, limiting thoughts/emotions run rampant, you’ll be stuck forever. Use the Silva Method to learn fun, innovative ways to master your mind and create positive change.
Emotional: emotions can positively or negatively influence your life experience, so become attuned to your emotions and use the Silva Method to manage and control them.
- Journal every day. You don’t have to write the next great American novel or a dissertation. A 5-10 minute session is more valuable than you might realize. It’s a place to jot down ideas, inspirations, worries, solutions, epiphanies, insights, dreams and gratitude. A journal brings your ideas to life!
- Meditate and/or practice a moving meditation such as tai chi or yoga
- Invest in your relationships. Show your loved ones that you love them. Really listen when they speak. Focus on understanding, not on your response.
- Be a gracious receiver as well as an unconditional giver.
- Learn to master your emotions with Silva Method exercises such as learning to enter the alpha brainwave level where stress melts away and you can get better insights on what’s going on inside you; programming yourself to remain calm in any situation; and learn visualization exercises that empower you to take control of yourself.
Spiritual: Feed your soul! The soul doesn’t always get the recognition and respect it deserves. We’re so attuned to the physical world that we often dismiss the energetic, nonphysical. Use the Silva Method to enhance your intuition and access the creative, unlimited right side of the brain more often and holistically.
- Let your imagination and creativity be your gateway to fulfillment. ALL creation starts with the energy of a thought; that thought becomes an image filled with emotion; that image becomes a desire; and that desire inspires action. Express yourself!
- Be open to the unexpected things that life can bring. Don’t be a control freak. Relax, enjoy the ride, trust that you’re here to experience life. Dr. Wayne Dyer put it so well, “When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor, it’s about enjoying each step.”
Hopefully this very short list has inspired you to balance your life. It’s not a huge commitment; just a few minutes of focusing on some neglected aspect of yourself will have a positive ripple effect. Visualize a sturdy chair as you go about your day.

Ask yourself, “Does my chair support me?”
Intuitively you know when your life is out of balance. Listen to that intuition! Strengthen the weak leg and improve your well-being.
The second component of wellness is mindset. Wellness begins – or ends – in the mind. If you’re ill, injured or suffering from a disease, your mental/emotional state is probably not great, especially if healing and recovery are taking a long time or if things are getting worse. A negative physical state can generate emotions of fear, worry, anger, resentment, guilt, etc. and this influences the body even more.
Stress is the major cause or contributing factor to most illness and disease and it negatively affects your physical, mental and emotional well-being – in fact it negatively impacts your whole life experience. Mastery of the mind lets you choose a state of happiness over a state of stress.
The most important wellness tip is: To take charge of your health/well-being, take charge of your mind.
The Silva Method can help you take charge of your mindset and your health. You can program yourself for wellness while you’re in the alpha brainwave level! Program yourself to be calm and optimistic, to manage and even eliminate pain, to relax your brain and body so that the body’s self-healing mechanisms go to work, visualize yourself as healthy and feeling great…
