What Is The Mind Body Connection?

In our society today, it might seem like an outrageous belief that the mind and body are deeply connected. This was not always the case. If you think about how different ‘physical’ ailments are treated as opposed to ‘mental’ disorders, its quite clear how society views the two.

In ancient civilizations, the mind and body were never considered separate. With the rise of holistic healing in the last decade and the search for alternative medicine, it is certain that this belief is changing.

The Mind Body connection specifically is the belief we are made up of cells. And these cells are what program our thoughts, our emotions and our physical body.

In other words, what you say and think will manifest in your physical body. On the flip side, what you do, how active you are, what you eat and your environment will affect your mental body.

A great example is stress. When someone is stressed, a condition brought on by your thoughts, cortisol is produced in the body to help handle the stressful situation. This helps the body cope with the stress. But cortisol suppresses the immune system, which is why you become sick from stress.

With evidence like this, the mind body connection cannot be dismissed, the more you understand the connection, the better you will be able to use both.
