It’s well known that the mind-set of a patient influences the healing process; and mind-set can cause, or prevent, up to 90% of all illnesses. That’s a staggering figure that clearly shows how powerful the mind is. You might have noticed that generally unhappy people seem to catch every cold that rolls through the office while the happy people remain well. This is no coincidence!

Stress is another factor. It’s hard to be happy when you’re under the burden of stress. Stress causes the overproduction of stress hormones in the brain, and this upsets the body’s natural balance – leading to a weakened state. Have you ever noticed that you are more susceptible to colds or other illness right after a highly stressful period in your life? Stress is a huge contributor to the state of your health, so de-stressing is crucial to well-being.

Did you know that if you constantly affirm the obvious when you are sick by saying “Ohhhh (groan)…I’m sooo sick… everything hurts…I just want to crawl in bed and die…” you are actually prolonging the illness? The state of the mind influences the state of the body; and the state of the body influences the state of the mind. One cannot be separated from the other; however, gaining mastery of the mind tips the balance. Stimulate Your Body’s Natural Healing Capabilities

You can awaken your mind’s natural healing capabilities by applying several techniques taught by the Silva Method.

1. Function at the Alpha and Theta brainwave levels. Normally (while awake) we operate at the Beta brainwave level. The low and mid-range Beta frequency is normal and healthy, and essential to everyday living. However, because of stress, many of us unknowingly function at “high Beta” which can best be described as hyper-focused on worry, fear and other stressful emotion. The problem is that we don’t even know it, because it feels so normal to be on the edge all the time, strung out and tense… So getting out of that high Beta state of being into a slower brainwave frequency (Alpha and even lower in Theta) is essential to healing.

Day-to-day functioning in these more relaxed yet still alert states is highly conducive to healing. The feelings of being in Alpha and Theta are, in a word, GOOD. At these slower brainwave frequencies, the brain stimulates production of healing, calming and mood-enhancing hormones such as endorphins, melatonin, serotonin, DHEA, GABA and the marvelously rejuvenating HGH (Human Growth Hormone) which is critical to healing. Now, when you’re in the Alpha or Theta brainwave state, it is impossible to be angry or stressed out. Those feelings just don’t exist at these states! 2. Develop your Healing Imagery. As you relax into the Alpha and Theta brainwave levels, visualize yourself in perfect health. Visualize yourself in the present tense, as perfectly strong, healthy and vibrant. It’s important to avoid focusing on getting better, or alleviating some symptoms – because what you visualize is just as real as what you physically experience! (You will perpetually be getting better, but never quite achieving your goal of being better). This has been proven by quantum physics as well as the great thinkers: “What you think about, comes about” is extremely important when it comes to your health and well-being! You can train yourself, with the help of the Silva Method, to effectively visualize perfect health, thereby stimulating the body’s self-healing capabilities.

3. Master your thoughts; in particular, the D-B-E process. That is, Desire, Belief and Expectancy. You know what you want; you believe it will happen; and you expect it to happen. Simple? Yes. Easy? Oh, no! Most of the self-doubt, fear and limiting beliefs “live” in your subconscious mind, and fly easily under the radar of your conscious thought.
